The thirteenth factsheet of the RIVEAL project starts a series of information documents presenting the project outcomes resulting from the performed project’s tasks. This factsheet – River regulation effects on vegetation – features the latest scientific knowledge acquired about the effects of river damming on the vegetation in downstream river stretches. In particular, this factsheet shows how vegetation responds proportionally to the river regulation intensity, which fades away downstream along the river down to a point (distance from the dam, regulation intensity) from which plant communities’ changes are no longer significantly different from the respective communities in free-flowing sites.
