The fourteenth factsheet of the RIVEAL project continues a series of information documents presenting the project outcomes. This factsheet – River regulation effects on the fluvial habitat – features the latest scientific knowledge acquired about the effects of river damming on the instream habitat in downstream river stretches. In particular, this factsheet shows how the combined effects of flow regime changes by dam reoperation, as a result of climate change and expected hydropower demand alteration in the future, will modify the instream habitat availability for several biological elements. A substantial threat to biodiversity is expected with diverse climate change scenarios, with the potential loss of species in every biological group.
